Kaput. I am ruined. I adored Naz Vitale in book 1 & 2, but he totally blew me away in this one. Yes, he's changed a bit. He's different. He wanted to be better for Karissa. We all know what went down in book 2; there were bound to be some consequences.

Well, the title suggest a far more action-packed plot. My nails suffered because of it.

"Places to go.
People to see.
Blood to spill.
You know how it is."

So many things happen in this one! I loved that we got both characters' POVs. This way, we could be in both of their heads to see what they thought and felt during certain scenes.

"Naz is the kind of guy that, once he walks into your world, he throws it off its axis, so even if he walks back out, nothing spins the same anymore."

He's an absolute fave that will never get taken off my list. Ever. This book is one of the best I've read this year. The way he is with Karissa... And yes, Karissa also rocks. I've liked her from book 1.

"The man is an enigma. A beautiful, sometimes terrifying puzzle that I'm still piecing together, little by little."

Needless to say, I LOVED it! That epilogue, I can't even! J.M. Darhower can really write an anti-hero like no other. 5 stars. It is a book that shall be reread many times. I want to thank the author, from the bottom of my wicked heart, for the copy given in exchange for my honest review.

How does this author take a phenomenal story and make it better with THIS third installment? Monster in His Eyes and Torture to Her Soul (Monster in His Eyes Book 2) were both riveting and addicting in an of themselves...but THIS story capped it all off incredibly well. (Incidentally, you cannot read this story without first reading the first two books or you're gonna be floundering in left field). I love how this author so adequately brought about Karissa's innocence and kindness in a world of corruption. Her innocence... which hits a nerve within Naz. It touches something buried deep within him; it speaks to him and eventually it begins to grow. I love how every blink of Karissa's eyes captivated and bound Naz to her even more. When it comes to Karissa Reed-Vitale, Ignazio Vitale misses nothing. NOTH-ING... It's been quite a long time since a series took such complete possession of my attention...filling me with angst and adoration for a complete fictional character. But Ms. Darhower does it --- and WOW does she do it with total, perfect precision. Never has a dark romantic plot completely captivated me since Consequences Book 1 of the Consequences Series causing me to neglect my life. This series held me emotionally enthralled within its limited time frame and I was completely, emotionally invested....no...make that emotionally addicted to Karissa's plight and Naz' devotion to her. And what a fascinating fictional character Ignazio Vitale is!

Naz is now trying to turn over a new leaf...not because he has any regrets for anything he's done in the past. No...but because he loves Karissa and wants to be a better man for her ---- to ease any guilt she may have for loving and committing herself to someone like him. A criminal. But he has a problem....in order to protect her from his criminal past, he has to stay in the game. Ignazio Vitale is an intense force of nature. Everything he does is for a reason...behind every word is a point to his actions...and it's usually never good. Ignazio (Naz) Vitale is commanding and controlling. He's strikingly handsome with his brown hair, bright blue eyes and dimpled smile. He's compelling, gorgeous, chivalrous and intense. He's possessive and impatient; fearsome, treacherous and...utterly fascinating. He's a flawed, tortured, damaged soul full of secrets and suspicious of everyone. He trusts no one and has no friends. And for Karissa, he's an addictive drug... and all it took was one hit for her to become addicted to him. Naz is in love with her... the one woman he should have never have fallen for....a woman who was his target. And she was blissfully ignorant at one time...looking at him with sparkling eyes --- so much innocence in her expression.

This is the phenomenal conclusion of Ignazio Vitale and the corrupt world of organized crime..(well, we can only hope it's NOT the conclusion). The brutal journey of Naz trying to ease himself out of organized crime. Ms. Darhower gives us a commanding performance as Karissa becomes the sunshine to Naz' darkness....soft to his hard and he quickly becomes lost without her. In the end, he becomes her prisoner. It's a stunningly dramatic, death tango. Secondary characters are just as compelling. I loved the insanity and humor of Lorenzo Gambini. That guy just....made me laugh out loud.

This story is riveting and utterly consuming. Strong characters, strong visual connection, strong plot-line; no loose threads, no holes. Brilliant writing Ms. Darhower! Absolutely brilliant!!
JM Darhower writes mafia stories like no other. I am obsessed with her writing. She is AMAZING. If you have not read this series, you have no idea what you are missing out on. The Monster in His Eyes Series is EPIC. With each turn of the page, you are on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. White knuckles gripping your reading device because you NEED to know what will come next.

Ignazio (Naz) Vitale is not a good man. Ignazio is a tortured soul. Yes, he has sinned. Yes he has done some horrific things in his lifetime. He never set out to fall in love again. Karissa was his target. An eye for an eye. Naz never meant to care for Karissa. He certainly never meant to fall in love with her.

Karissa and Naz have been through a lot. Karissa has managed to forgive Naz for things that he has done and as much as Naz tell her he is not a good man, Karissa vows to see him in a different light. Karissa is not naive. She knows what Naz is capable of. She knows what haunts him in his dreams, what keeps him awake at night. Despite Naz's past, Karissa still loves him and knows that he can be a good man. That there is still good within him, despite seeing the monster in his eyes sometimes.

When Karissa's life is in danger, Naz struggles internally. The monster within in still lives, and it will rear it's ugly head if need be. There are targets on Naz and Karissa's backs as a result of decisions Naz has made. He vows to protect what's his, and he will stop at nothing to protect Karissa.

As we all know, Naz walked away from the "business". But it is ever that easy? Can he just walk away and think that he and Karissa can walk away in the sunset? Things are never that easy. People want Ignazio. He is the best at what he does. But when he declines offers to work for some people, it creates a target on his back. Everyone has a weakness, and people know the one weakness Ignazio has... KARISSA.

Sometimes we think people are our friends, but in Ignazio's line of work, he has no friends. He trusts no one. So when push comes to shove and Karissa's life is once again in danger, can he trust anyone to help him, or will be have to go at this alone.

Target on Our Backs is the third book in this series. I was shocked to see that this was even being released as there was no talk on social media about it, until JM Darhower was like, hey, look at this new cover. Then BAM, I almost fell off my chair. I never want this series to end.

As much as I know that Ignazio is a dangerous man. I, like Karissa, see the good within him. It may be hard to accept the things that he has done, but he isn;t the monster he portrays himself to be. I agree with Karissa, there is definitely a good man beneath that monster that he is portrayed to be.
